I know some of you wanted to see the tractor plow some more, but I have been dying to use this thing since I repaired it. Besides, I dont think the tractor would have worked too well, if at all, with the weight of this snow. I trash picked this 1 and half years ago. At the time it seemed to only need a carb rebuild (tank of old gas) and the transmission was seized. Spent a whole $10 on the kit, rebuilt the carb, and it started right up. The transmission is a simple axle with a large wheel that a smaller rubber wheel rubs on, and depending on where the shifter is, moves from the outside of the larger wheel to the inside making the machine go slower to faster. There was a mouse nest in there, caused moisture build up rusting the shafts. I had noticed that most of the shear pins were broken, and went and replaced them thinking nothing of it. When the machine was on the impeller moved fine and the wheels turned. Last winter I tried using it, but as soon as it hit the snow, the auger would stop spinning and just stop the machine in its tracks. The second stage was still working, but the first stage augers would slip if load was put on them. That turned out to be a stripped brass gear in the gear box up front. the part is about $40, but I was able to salvage one from an 80's ariens with a seized engine. Why the hell is it brass? All in all, I spent $10 on this thing and it works perfectly Started on the first pull, which amazed me. I never had a tecumseh that worked that well ...

From mid-early 80's, in very good condition for the year, very little rust and the little it has does not affect its functionality at all. 2.7 HP, handled all of the snow last year. Just got a new spark plug and completely new oil. Cleaned it up, only thing it could use but doesn't necessarily need is a carb cleaning within the next few years. 1988 toro cr20 snowblower. Uses a Tecumseh AH600 2-stroke motor and power curve augers. Has the air vane discharge system like on the old Toro S200s and S620s. This snow was super heavy and wet, saturated with a few hours of rain and sleet. Sorry for the odd angles as I was trying to operate the blower on a side slope with 1 hand while filming it and the discharge. My feet were slipping badly on the ice and slush.

Here is footage of my 2010 Ariens Compact 22 snowblower with the Subaru engine clearing snow. The Subaru engine started up on the first (easy) pull and ran flawlessly for 2 hrs straight. The snow is more than 20 inches and is wet enough to clump. The intake on the snowblower is 22 " tall so you can appreciate the depth of the snow. I cleaned about 3000 square feet with the machine and it only struggled with the really deep wet mounds created by the street plow at the end of the driveway. This much snow is not normal for Northern NJ so I am very happy with my purchase and would highly recommend this blower for snowfalls of up to 15".

Honda (HMC) is recalling 18500 snowblowers voluntarily, reports the Wall Street Journal. The news comes after one of the largest blizzards of the year hit parts of the country a day after Christmas. The company and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission said the recall follows 90 reports of fuel either seeping or dripping, events that could lead to a fire. No fires have been reported.
